The owner decided to single us out for no reason and harassed us the whole time we were there. He even bullied my kids. I've never met such an angry, unpleasant and rude person in my life... especially not one who makes his living in the service industry. It's a shame because the campground itself is very nice.
I cannot stress enough how bizarre and unreal this experience was. The owner and his "security team" even went so far as to block our vehicles in with their golf carts (which the owner was driving around drunk and without his lights on). Do not spend your money here!
DO NOT STAY HERE!!! If I can save just one family the anguish we endured, then writing this review is worth it. The owner, Todd, is the most aggressive, pathological, petty, rude person I've ever encountered. His goal is to kick you out, plain and simple. Twice he said we could get a refund to leave a day early (first telling a Fremont County Sheriff's Officer then looking me in the eyes) and then reneged on his word. Where I come from, that makes you a coward and a liar. This guy has absolutely no integrity or scruples. You do not treat paying customers this way. Our biggest mistake was not checking the reviews. Sadly, reviews like the one I'm leaving have been happening for over 7 years, too. There are plenty of wonderful campgrounds in either direction so do yourself a favor and KEEP DRIVING! He has issues with cops, military, and kids so we immediately became his target. He drove around drunk on his golf cart with the lights out the entire evening and eventually him and his minions blocked both ends of our campsite with their golf carts and just sat there. Who does that? We were sitting around the campfire trying to ignore these jerks but after the incessant harassing, we were forced to call the Sheriff. Big, bad bullies scurried away like little roaches when they realized Tanked Todd could get a DUI so they quickly ditched the golf carts and had to carry him to his house. It's sad when local law enforcement has to remind the owner paying customers have rights. Please avoid this place under Todd Denius as the owner.
If there were such a thing as negative or zero stars, that would be what I would choose here. Apparently the owner treats his customers in a rude and aggressive manner. I have heard that he doesn't like military or police officers even though he calls the police often. He appeared to be intoxicsted and purposely blocked my son in law's truck. They don't give refunds. His business plan must include kicking out customers so you can re-rent the space. Avoid!
Bottom line up front: Don't waste your money here. While the grounds are nice and a good view, the staff is rude, confrontational and looking for any reason to kick you out so he can rent the spot again and keep your $. I was visiting friends at the campground and Todd got confrontational about where I parked (right next to my friend's truck, not blocking anything). While I moved my truck, my wife went to go sign in as directed by multiple signs on the property. Todd was rude and aggressive towards her as well. While several of the kids went to the pool, Todd took every opportunity to harass the kids and parents watching the kids. When asked why he was being so aggressive and confrontational he got madder and told us and others to leave. He called the Fremont county Sheriff. The sheriffs arrived and told us of other campgrounds that are nicer, better staffed, and with far fewer problems. Apparently they are out there multiple times during the week. That should say everything a prospective camper has to know about Royal View Campground. After we left and it got dark, Todd got tanked up drunk and decided to continue to harass our friends with his tough guy flunkies, blocking their truck in the space with their golf carts, and driving around the campground with their lights off. When asked to turn the lights on Todd again got angry. His buddies had to carry him away he was so drunk and the police were called again, this time by our friends. Read the reviews from other sites as well, Trip Advisor, Facebook, Yelp, and others. This isn't an isolated incident at the campground and is the theme of the majority of reviews. I would never stay at this place or visit there again and recommend not taking the risk of a confrontation with Todd and getting told to leave while he keeps your money. There is no talking to Todd, he is ego oriented and does not care about the customers. He seems to have a problem with military and law enforcement type people and even said so to other campers as recorded in another review on another site. Even though no one acted aggressively towards him, he hired extra "security" for the night and in the morning tried to make our friends pay for it, attempting to extort them for $600 before they could leave. The sherriff was called again and escorted our friends safely off the property without having to pay another cent. If Todd leaves the campground business, the world will be a better place. If I could give zero stars I would.
Avoid this place!
I don't even know how to describe how awful our experience was at the campground. To start we were swimming in the pool and then the owner kicked us out of the pool because of the way we were jumping in. After aggressively arguing with us he just decided that he wanted my friends family to leave. My 9 year old cousin started to cry because she didn't want them to leave . HE MADE A 9 YEAR OLD GIRL CRY!!! The cops were called and they were very kind to us but told our friends family that they did have to leave because it was private property. After that he (The owner) just started watching everything we did. He was also saying very rude things about people who are in the military. We later found out that he hates not only military but cops, women (treats them like objects), and people of the Christian religion. Enough said.
