We did the half-day trip in Bighorn Sheep Canyon and it was great! Afterwards we wished we had just gone for the full day since all the Class V rapids were further downriver. Our guide was a super skilled and friendly dude who didn't underestimate our group of all girls. Would definitely go back here!
The first half of the day through bighorn sheep canyon is pretty tame (highest rapids of class 3). Great for kids or for a warm-up, but for capable adults, I might recommend skipping it in favor of just the Royal gorge section (so a half day) which was fast paced with larger rapids and better views.
1st time rafting with WAO and we had a blast! I took my family of 4, including my 6 y/o and 8 y/o sons who are rafting rookies. We floated Bighorn Sheep Canyon with Joe as our guide and had a ball. Joe was super fun, experienced and knowledgeable. He taught my boys to paddle, and taught us all about the river, geology, wildlife and how to go with the flow. We will be back next year!
Don't be fooled by the "pretty" guides or the great looking girls who will take you down the river, stick with the ones who look like they live on the river. Oh and don't forget to be real nice to the girl who takes the river pictures, she will get some great shots for you to show us all.
Did the full day royal gorge trip and had a blast. Our guide Jordan was excellent. They're a mom and pop type outfitter that's one of the smaller companies on the river, but that only makes them better in my opinion.
If you want the best river guide service come here. Our group has been using Whitewater for over 20 years and NEVER had a situation which couldn't be solved to the betterment of all. We have taken people from 14 to 55+ down the Arkansas River many times and its all in the guide and equipment. Whitewater uses top of the line equipment and I think the very best guides on the river. If possible ask for Brian, he will charm you, soak you and have you crying with laughter all on the same rapid.
Skilled staff lead us on our first rafting experience through the Royal Gorge. We were unsure what to expect. It was so much fun! We were very impressed with our guide Johnnie; he masterfully got us through Class III and IV rapids. The entire staff was amazing. They are very professional and cautious about safety. They gave a lot of instructions and prep. Like anything, all that information was scary at first, but good to know and glad we didn't need it. We recommend this company.
Full day does include a hearty Italian sub lunch with plenty of sides though which we enjoyed (fruits, cookies, chips, etc).
